Sunderland Transfers: 5 Reasons Fabio Borini Is Worth £14m
5. He's Only 23
Unike Harry Redknapp, whos scouting philosophy involves a copy of Fifa 2006 and a series link to Sky Sports Years, Gus Poyet is a man who likes to build for the future. Already this summer, Gus has taken a look at 19 year old Crewe star Max Clayton, and is likely to sign 23 year old Marcos Alonso and 25 year old Santiago Vergini - both of whom he had on loan last year. Even Costel Pantilimon and Jordi Gomez have lots of petrol in the tank, and it is a far cry from the Dads Army transfer policy under Martin ONeill and Steve Bruce. At 23, Fabio Borini certainly fits the bill as a signing for the long term, and yet despite his age, the Italian has already achieved a lot in his relatively short career so far. Spells at Chelsea, Parma, Roma, and Liverpool have given the forward the perfect grounding in the game, whilst play-off success with Swansea was followed with a Wembley strike for the Black Cats in March. A first Italian cap against the USA in February 2012 is hopefully the first of many as Borini looks to establish himself as a regular Premier League player.
