Sunderland Transfers: 5 Signings Black Cats Still Need To Make

The signings to make the Black Cats' summer business truly great.

Sunderland have already been very active in the summer transfer window but there is still work to do if Gus Poyet wants to build on the great escape from last season. The Uruguayan has secured seven new players and extended the contracts of Seb Larsson and himself since the transfer window opened at the beginning of August, but that is not yet enough, and the question inevitably arises of who else could be joining to bolster the squad in terms of depth and quality for the new season? Lee Congerton has recently said in an interview with The Times that he wants his team to have a 'British heart and to have a Spanish style of play', so we already have some indication of the type of style Sunderland will be trying to play for the rest of the season after the season opening draw with West Brom. That result proved what was already known - plenty of work is still required in order to improve from the struggles of last season and to build towards a less dramatic, less heart-wrenching season. But who are the ideal signings? Here we look at who else could be joining before the deadline passes on 1st September.
