Sunderland Transfers: 5 Signings Black Cats Still Need To Make

5. Fabio Borini

It really wouldn't be a blog, article or discussion about Sunderland AFC if the handsome little Italian wasn't mentioned, would it? Poyet has already declared why the Italian joining would be beneficial to his team: his immense work ethic, determination, quality on the ball and his winning mentality in key games being just a few examples of why the Uruguayan is prepared to spend upwards of £14m on the striker. He would most definitely be the first name on the team sheet if he signs on the dotted line and he will bring more attacking options from the left hand side of midfield and link up with either Connor Wickham or Steven Fletcher depending on who gets the nod as the main striker. The transfer saga has dragged on for over three weeks, since the clubs agreed a fee, but with Loic Remy failing his Liverpool medical and Brendan Rodgers still needing another striker to make up for the loss of Luis Suarez, the wait will have to continue. There are still some suspicions though that once Liverpool verbally agree a new striking target and Borini receives his compensation from Liverpool over his current contract then the deal should go ahead. But of course, the longer we wait the more nervous we all get. Poyet is desperate to land his man but with recent comments circulating that he may look elsewhere, hopefully this tactic will force Liverpool to get moving as Fabio was not even included on their bench this weekend despite being fit after his shoulder injury.
