The Reason Why Coloccini/Krul Bust up Is Great News For Newcastle
It was nice to hear about the curly haired captain caring, a little...
Two of Newcastle United's stalwarts of recent years were allegedly involved in a scuffle on the team coach after the humiliation away to Leicester at the weekend. While news about dressing room disputes leaking to the media never look good on the surface, they are more commonplace than you would think and a lot shouldn't be read into them. In the case of Krul and Colo, two men who have gone through thick and thin while on Tyneside, their apparent verbals to one another should be looked at in a positive way by all those who follow the black and whites. In the captain's case especially, accusations of not caring have been thrown his way all to often over the last 18 months since his alleged misdemeanour with a young lass from the North East that forced his partner to take the bairns back to Argentina. Many thought that Colo, who obviously wanted to leave for San Lorenzo to deal with these apparat personal problems, should have been let go and not held by the club against his will. His performances since this news broke in the media suggest this would have been the best for both parties. But to hear that he took offence when his goalkeeper questioned his commitment and leadership of the team was refreshing to hear. His leadership skills on the field are not typical of a captain that plies his trade at the top level of the English game. Instead of screaming at his teammates and being the conductor on the pitch, he chooses a quieter style that sees him lead by example. A style that is hard to justify when you are having shocker after shocker, week after week. There's little doubting that any player that was unwilling to play under the leadership of Coloccini would have been buoyed by their captain's alleged passion to defend his cause. Maybe it's a side of his they hadn't seen before... This scuffle could be the turning point in Newcastle's season. It's pretty obvious that John Carver has lost the dressing room following his scandalous dressing down of Mike Williamson after the centre back's red card. Well, that's if he hadn't already which was a possibility when looking at Daryl Janmaat's decision not to acknowledge the Head Coach while trudging off the pitch after his own dismissal. So seeing the captain, who does have a lot of say behind the scenes at the club (cough, Facundo Ferreyra, cough) getting so animated will have hopefully ruffled a few feathers. Saturday's performance against West Brom, arguably the most pivotal in the club's recent history, should be a lot more feisty thanks to Colo's actions.
