10 Opponents Carl Froch Could Face Next

3. James DeGale

James DeGale fought on the undercard of Froch v Groves II and won, in what was a final eliminator for the IBF super middleweight belt. This should mean that he is in pole position to take on Froch in the very near future. However, boxing is rarely as straight forward as it should seem to be and DeGale may have to wait his turn a little while longer. The Olympic gold medallist was extremely impressive in knocking out Brandon Gonzales at Wembley. The American had never lost before, never mind been knocked out, but that is exactly what happened to him in the fourth round against €œChunky€. DeGale against Froch would obviously be staged in Britain and it would not be anywhere near the same spectacle that Froch v Groves was. It would do well enough, selling out a smaller stadium, but nothing compared to the event at Wembley. If the IBF insist on the contest then it could well happen, but Froch may even choose to vacate his belt and look for more profitable opportunities elsewhere.
