Ukraine 0-0 England - 5 Reasons Three Lions Aren't The Superpower Some Think They Are
4. The Set-Up Needs Rejuvenating From The Ground Up
No doubt this has been highlighted before but the abysmal performances of the limited age sides at this summer's competitions were a disgrace, but it comes as no surprise. England U-20's finished bottom of their group (which involved Chile, Egypt and Iraq) with 2 draws and a defeat, but this has been a problem for 20 years now. Since the U-20's best ever finish of 3rd in 1993, they have failed to qualify for four tournaments and not progressed beyond the group stages at four more. Unfortunately, the U-21 team isn't any better. After reaching the Final in 2009, England have failed to progress past the group stage in the last two tournaments. An even more frightening stat is that since reaching the Semi-Final in 1998, England have failed to progress past the group stage at 10 of the 12 stadiums, failing to qualify for 7 of those tournaments. It's clear from that that something needs changing at the bottom, in a style that could hopefully be similar to that of Germany or Spain.
