Villareal 2-2 Real Madrid - Real Good Start For Gareth Bale
After a summer of rumours and press speculation that Real Madrid were going to break the World record transfer fee with a bid for Gareth Bale. They did indeed get their Welshman and subsequently broke the World football transfer record with an astonishing £85 million fee. This surpasses the previous world record of £80 million which was held by Bale's new team mate and footballing icon Cristiano Ronaldo. To put this into context last night Cristiano Ronaldo played in his 203rd game for Real Madrid and his goal in the 63rd minute against Villarreal was in fact his 203rd goal. Now that is the sort of record you expect from a world record transfer holder and this is why there may be an overwhelming pressure on Bale to have a record just as good. So with all that in mind im sure it will be a mammoth relief to all involved with Real Madrid to see Bale pick up a goal on his debut in the 2-2 draw with Villarreal last night. The 24-year-old was served a tempting ball into the six-yard box courtesy of Dani Carvajal and Bale beat his marker to score his first Madrid goal shortly before half time. Bale's debut lasted just 61 minutes as he was replaced by Angel Di Maria although it may still be a couple of weeks before Bale is back to full match fitness. One thing is for sure though, Gareth Bale will be a relieved man to have gotten a debut goal and managed to build the foundations for a potentially prosperous Madrid career early on.
