West Ham United: 10 Managers Who Could Replace Sam Allardyce

5. Slaven Bilić

Why He Should: Rumoured to be one of the frontrunners for the job, Bilić has a history with West Ham. A classy and reliable defender, he was brought to the club by Harry Redknapp in 1996 for the then record price of £1.3 million. He fast became a fan favourite, and was voted as the runner-up player of the 1996-7 season. He's still highly regarded by fans, so he'd be a popular appointment in East London.

He's also had some managerial success, most notably with Croatia. He guided his home country to the quarter-finals of Euro 2008 (qualifying for the tournament at the expense of England) and the group stages of the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012. This means he has what it takes to carry the Hammers to the next level.

Why He Shouldn't: Bilić has no experience of managing in the Premier League. While this hasn't stopped other managers coming from abroad and being successful, it's something for the West Ham owners to bear in mind.

Additionally, his club record since leaving Croatia has been rather hit-and-miss. He was sacked by Locomotiv Moscow having led them to ninth place, their worst ever finish in the current iteration of the Russian League. He's done better with Besiktas, coming third twice, but his reign has been marred by outbursts at referees that are a cause for concern.
