World Cup 2014: 25 Most Memorable Moments

15. National Anthems

Although the Brazilian performances on the pitch were less than inspiring, there is no doubt that their national anthems were: each time the ceremonial song was played, it proved a great pre-game spectacle as the anthem was recited by everyone from the players to the mascots.

Even when the music stopped the Brazilians insisted on singing the second verse, leading to goose bumps for all those watching. Some people have blamed the national anthems for Brazil€™s poor performances, as the players looked to put so much emotion in to their renditions that it potentially distracted from the job in hand, but there is no doubt that these anthems highlighted the passionate atmosphere in which this World Cup has been played.

14. Dos Santos Goals Disallowed vs Cameroon

This World Cup had its fair share of refereeing controversy, which was no more obvious than when the energetic Mexicans out -classed a laboured Cameroon side. Although Mexico eventually ran out 1-0 victors it could have been a lot easier for them if it wasn€™t for some dreadful officiating.

In the early stages of the game a cross from the right wing was volleyed in by Giovani Dos Santos only for an offside flag to halt the Mexican celebrations. Later on in the first half Dos Santos had a second goal ruled out for offside. For it happen twice in one game is a disaster for the linesman and no surprise he was sent home after this match.
