Man Utd: 5 Reasons Sir Alex Ferguson Will Be Back Before May

4. He's Performed Retirement U-turn Before

As surprising as any decision taken by Ferguson to step out of retirement may be, it wouldn't be completely out of character. He has done it before. On May 18, 2001, Ferguson delivered the bombshell news that he was going to retire in 2002, leaving United in total disarray when he said:
"I will be leaving Manchester United at the end of the season and that is it."
However, by February of that year, talks over a new deal had recommenced and the Scot had performed a sensational U-turn on his decision. He would go on to manage the club for a further 11 years, and win the Premier League title in 2002-03 (and five more after that) as well as another Champions League trophy in 2008. Of course, circumstances are very different now, over a decade on, and Ferguson is no longer the 60-year-old he once was. But there are other mitigating circumstances that could still lead to a second retirement reversal, which brings me on to my next point.
