6. Georginio Wijnaldum
V Southampton (9th August 2015) Signed in the summer of 2015 for an eye-catching figure with glowing endorsements from Dutch pundits and PSV's captain's armband to back him up, Gini Wijnaldum has proved already to be one of Graham Carr's more welcome signings. He's scored a huge number of goals for a midfielder in a struggling side, and his ability on the ball was evident from his first competitive game in black and white against a talented Southampton side. He was excellent on the ball, retaining possession and passing beautifully and he made the headlines with a debut-capping goal to become the seventh Newcastle player to score on their Premier League debut at St James Park. His header from Gabriel Obertan's incredible cross was the best moment of the game. Did It Last? In a mostly terrible season, Gini has so far proved a revelation. Even when the team's performance has meant he has taken a back seat to action, his touch and vision have proved sublime. With Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet hopefully now changing the make-up of the midfield and an agenda to play him in his more successful number 10 role, we could now see even more from the supremely talented Dutchman.
