4. Andy Carroll
At one point in time it looked a dead cert that Andy Carroll was going to be the next Wayne Rooney. A budding young striker whos goal record spoke for itself, 31 goals in 80 appearances at St James Parks. It was no surprise that bigger clubs were chasing Carroll and we all expected him to sign for one. What came as such a surprise was the price fee. On the final day of the 2011 transfer window Liverpool coughed up a staggering
£35 million for the 22 year old. Needless to say everyone expected big thinks from him. He had been brought in at the last minute to replace striker Fernando Torres, who had moved to Chelsea the same day. Big shoes to fill and unfortunately for Carroll ones he wasnt able to. The striker went on to score 6 goals in 44 games for the red before being sent out on loan and ultimately signing for West Ham.
