Sir Alex Ferguson once famously said in support of Juan Sebastian Verón: " is a f****** great player, and you're all f****** idiots.". The above ferocious, foul mouthed tirade is a rare example of Ferguson being wrong about something, with Veron widely considered the biggest flop in Manchester United's history. Signed from Lazio in 2001 for an eye-watering £28 million - a British transfer record at the time - Veron was bought to provide competition for Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and David Beckham, but failed to emulate any of the above during his disastrous two-year stay at the Theatre of Dreams. The Argentinian largely failed to cope with the speed and pace of the Premier League and was not allowed the same time and space on the ball as he was in Italy. As a result, he was sold to Chelsea after just two seasons at the club, before returning to first club Estudiantes, where he retired this weekend.
