10 Most Expensive Man Utd Transfer Flops In History
4. Marouane Fellaini (£27 million)
It might perhaps seem harsh to see Marouane Fellaini on this list given that he has only been a Manchester United player for less than a year. But the fact we shelled out £27 million for his services is enough to warrant his inclusion as an expensive flop, with his uneventful one season at Old Trafford lending fuel to the argument that the midfielder was a panic buy - signed on transfer deadline day by David Moyes last summer. With 11 goals, Fellaini was Everton's top goalscorer for the 2012-13 campaign, a real handful in the middle of the park and considered one of the Premier League's best box-to-box midfielders. That reputation today lies in tatters with the Belgian failing to open his account thus far for the Red Devils, leading some critics to suggest he is incapable of cutting it at the highest levels of the game. Fellaini will get another season to prove himself but for the time being has to be considered a flop. Fans will hope he can turn things around soon.
