Liverpool and Arsenal were involved in a tug of war for the signing of Sanchez throughout this summer. The Chilean superstar knew that his chances at Barcelona would be more limited, after the Catalan giants bought Luis Suarez from the Reds, and it became clear that his future lay in the Premier League. The 25-year-old was reportedly close to moving to Anfield, with Brendan Rodgers apparently telling those dealing with the transfer to keep offering about £3m more than Arsenal every time the north London club made a bid for him. Unfortunately, Sanchez's preference was to move to London, with the bright lights of the capital clearly appealing more than Merseyside. It wasn't necessarily a footballing decision, but the Reds had missed out on a wonderful talent. He has had a superb start to life at Arsenal, standing out as comfortably their best player so far this season. He will be a sensational signing for the Gunners, and would have been the perfect replacement for Suarez.
