3. Barcelona 2-2 Chelsea 2011/12 1/2 Final 2nd Leg
Protecting a 1-0 lead from a Didier Drogba goal at Stamford Bridge in the first leg, the Blues faced the unenviable task of trying to hold off a Barca onslaught in front of a partisan atmosphere at the Nou Camp. So, I'm sure Roberto Di Matteo's team talk was to keep things tight and compact at the gap; be disciplined and hit them on the counter. But, in the face of Barca pressure and their intricate 'tiki taka' passing, Chelsea were about to buckle as Sergio Busquets levelled the aggregate scores Then, suddenly, Chelsea's task was made even harder as influential captain John Terry saw red for kneeing Alexis Sanchez up the bum. They were under the cosh- big time! Eager to take advantage of their numerical supremacy, Andres Iniesta slotted in and put Barca in the lead on aggregate. However, Chelsea went straight up the other end and Ramires, who would pick up a booking and miss the final should they make, provided a sumptuous chip over Valdes and the Blues were back to being through to the final. Chance after chance came Barca's way and they just couldn't break through. Then, suddenly after they stoutly defended a Barca attack, a ball was sent through to Fernando Torres to run on to and promptly seal their place in the final and send Mr Gary Neville into his '
scoregasm'. Lady luck remained on Chelsea's side as they scored a late equaliser, saved Bayern penalties (both in normal time and the shootout) and saw Roman Abramovich's dream materialise.
