Another partnership that was best translated into footballing form, Cole and Beardsley were the single most prolific strike force in Newcastle's modern history, and considering a 25 goal partnership these days is classed as solid gold, their 55 goal haul was astonishing. Though Cole has always been quick to include Scott Sellars in the praise of the strike-force - very justifiably at that - it was the relationship between the young man and the 32 year old genius veteran that fired Newcastle to third in the league that season. The dynamic between the two was enough to save Cole's relationship with Kevin Keegan after a high-profile falling out saw the striker walk out of the club before they'd even really got going. And while the relationship didn't last long, it was phenomenally successful while it did, thanks to the psychic bond between the pair.
