He is without doubt the toughest player to represent Arsenal during Arsene Wengers tenure, a reputation he earned over several years at the top level. Like Ray Parlour, Keown was involved in the post-match brawl with Ruud van Nistelrooy after the striker missed that now infamous penalty. Keown was very much the igniter of the situation, clocking the Manchester United star right on the back of the head as he jumped for joy at the Dutchmans penalty miss. Such an action was typical of Keowns ways, he loved the physical side of the game and was often prone to the red mist descending.
