5. Andrea Dossena vs Man United; March 2009
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNG20MuBXD8 Andrea Dossena was never much of a player at Anfield. Slow, sluggish and reckless in the challenge, he looked decidedly average during his two year stint on Merseyside, and even worse at Sunderland three years later. Signed as John Arne Riise's replacement in 2008, the Italian found himself slipping behind the likes of Fabio Aurelio and Emiliano Insua in the pecking order due to his woeful performances. Which is why is what was probably fitting that Liverpool's most surprising week results-wise featured exquisite finishes from the man himself. As if demolishing Real Madrid wasn't shell-shocking enough, the confidence-oozing Liverpool side travelled to Old Trafford four days later and recovered from going a goal down to cruise to a famous 4-1 victory. Dossena scored the final goal in both games, with his cheeky lob over Edwin van der Sar having been the icing on the cake. With Manchester United having taken control of the title race, it looked like they were about to quell Liverpool's challenge when Cristiano's Ronaldo fired them into an early lead, but as soon as Fernando Torres shrugged off Nemanja Vidic to equalise, they never looked back. A Steven Gerrard penalty before half-time put them ahead, before Fabio Aurelio sealed victory with 13 minutes remaining. The humiliation was compounded in injury-time when the substitute looped a long ball over the goalkeeper and into the back of the Mancunian net. He may have been a wretched signing for Liverpool, but what a week to remember for the Italian.
