10 Memorable Man United Goals Scored By Ordinary Players

8. Darren Gibson vs Bayern Munich, April 2010

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ek73cazJK0 When one gets told to leave their club by their international manager, it's fairly clear to see that they need a fresh start. Darren Gibson was never given a run in the Manchester United team, and really, who could blame Ferguson? He has always been a sub-standard Premier League player, as evidenced by his struggling to make the Everton team upon his return from injury. One moment he shall cherish for as long as he lives, however, despite the outcome of the final result, occurred in the Champions League quarter-final clash with Bayern Munich in April 2009. With Man United trailing 2-1 to the Bavarian giants from the first leg, there seemed to be a calmness residing over Old Trafford as Louis van Gaal's troops arrived in Manchester. After all, Bayern hadn't done much on a European scale in a long time, and the Red Devils had goals throughout the team. Indeed, it took them all of two and a half minutes to level the aggregate scores, as Gibson received the ball from Wayne Rooney 30 yards from goal and unleashed a powerful drive into the bottom corner of Hans-Jorg Butt's goal. It was a special moment for the Irishman, having been entrusted with starting this crucial fixture. Nani would grab a second four minutes later, and then a third after 41 minutes, but it didn't stop Bayern grabbing two away goals and advancing to the semi-finals. A disappointing night for Gibson, but on a personal level, he will have felt somewhat proud to have registered his first, and to date only, Champions League goal.
