10 Most Embarrassing Old Firm European Nights

6. Maribor 2-1 Rangers (August 2011)

The Scottish champions met the Slovenian champions in this Europa League game, and it was the Gers who took the lead when Juan Manuel Ortiz poked home. Unfortunately for Rangers, that was as good as it got as they missed chance after chance in the first half. Maribor were a different side in the second half and were soon level when household name Agim Ibraimi blasted past Allan McGregor. Rangers hearts were broken when Etien Velikonja scored a fantastic back-heel late in the match, which would see Rangers crashing out. The game served as a worrying sign that Scottish teams could no longer compete with even the minnows of European football, and was the last game Rangers have played in Europe to this day.
