10 Most Surprising Transfers In Premier League History
1. Carlos Tevez And Javier Mascherano - Corinthians To West Ham
2006 saw one of the most bizarre transfers we have seen in the Premier League era, as West Ham United pulled off the surprise capture of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano in a double deal.
The then 22-year-olds both signed for the Hammers out of nowhere, moving to the club from South America on permanent contracts under then manager Alan Pardew.
The move was littered with controversy due to third party ownership issues and an agent who seemingly just wanted to get his clients into Europe before shipping them off elsewhere. Indeed the controversy would not stop there, as Tevez would score the goal on the final day of the season which saw West Ham survive and Sheffield United relegated, leading to a court case what would rumble on for a good few years between both clubs.
Both would go on to have superb careers at the highest level, but looking back now, it remains one of the most surprising and eye catching transfers of the last 20 years.
