Arsenal Transfers: 10 Players Wenger Should Have Signed

7. Lars Bender

Ahh, the classic love story of €˜boy likes girl, boy chases girl for two summer transfer windows and boy still doesn€™t get the girl€™. Having seen a bid just shy of £20million rejected for the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder back in the summer transfer window of 2013, it was just expected that Arsenal would go back in for the CDM, up their offer and get the man to solve their €˜We€™ve got to play Mathieu Flamini€™ problem. But, sadly for the Gunners, the Bender rumours never really developed past the early stages of euphoria as, earlier in the summer, the midfielder was quoted as saying: "I signed my new contract until 2019, and that should have told everyone how happy I am at Leverkusen. "I feel settled here and see no reason to change anything. In fact, if I am to be completely honest, I haven€™t had an overly brilliant season and don€™t feel ready yet to take on a pivotal role at a big club somewhere else. The German international is now entering his sixth season with the Bundesliga side.
