Arsenal Transfers: 10 Players Wenger Should Have Signed

6. Alex Song

Despite six years at Arsenal €“ seven if you include his loan deal with the Gunners before joining permanently - not too many Gooners were disappointed when the Cameroonian international departed for Barcelona. The wonderfully named Alexandre Dimitri Song Billong failed to hold down a first-team place with the Catalan giants. And, after just two seasons with the La Liga giants, Song has found himself back in the Premier League with West Ham United. Song€™s departure was nowhere near as big of a blow to Arsenal as Emmanuel Adebayor€™s, Samir Nasri€™s or Robin van Persie€™s. However, a move to bring back the one-time Gunner would€™ve made sense with the window about to close. Despite the myth that Song is a defensive midfielder €“ he€™s too ill disciplined in a positional and temperamental sense €“ he would€™ve helped add a bit more mobility to the middle of the park than Arteta and Flamini can offer. West Ham have secured a signing well above their station, and on loan, surely that kind of deal would€™ve been a beneficial stop-gap for Arsene Wenger€™s XI?
