10 Players Who Thought They Were Bigger Than Newcastle United

7. Jose Enrique

On the face of it, Jose Enrique left Newcastle because of some very public unhappiness with the direction the club was going in. After seeing Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan sold, the Spaniard took to Twitter to criticise the club€™s transfer policy, accuse the club of lying, say the new signings were inferior and say that Newcastle would never challenge for honours. He seemed like a passionate, committed player scorned by the regime, but in truth, Enrique wanted out whether those issues existed or not. He expected to play Champions League football after an impressive two seasons and heard rumours of interest, but without firm offers something had to be done. So he took to Twitter, making himself that one player who thinks themselves bigger than the club and immune to the rules, to engineer a move to a club he thought he was worthy of.
