10 Ridiculous Arguments Against Sacking Alan Pardew
2. Pardew Is The Lesser Of All Evils
The most frustrating part of the Pardew debate is that pro-Pardew Newcastle fans dismiss those who criticise the decision not to sack him because the alternative is unthinkable. They are happy to continue with the club's current trajectory because his replacement might be as bad as Kinnear, or as poorly chosen as Dennis Wise. But again, that evaluation is remarkably short-sighted. There are a massive number of talented managers who would leap at the chance to work in the Premier League and who have already proved their talents. The likes of Frank De Boer, Sami Hyypia, Thomas Tuchel or Jorge Sampaoli would spring immediately to mind as improvements, and fundamentally, the decision to dismiss any manager as an unknown quantity is to miss the point that any kind of change would be good. They also mostly ignore calls to give a new manager a break, rather than looking only to established options like David Moyes and Tony Pulis. It might be true that they would be less likely to work with Ashley, but a younger, hungrier manager would not be the same.
