10 Spurs Players Who Should Have Earned More England Caps

1. Ledley King

Caps: 21 Ledley King was an outstandingly talented central defender who spent the entirety of his 13 year playing career with Spurs. He was a true one-club man, which truly is a rarity in modern football €“ and he inevitably became the club€™s captain. Like Jonathan Woodgate, King suffered from persistent injury. Though, in King's case, it was even more severe. He had a chronic knee injury that meant he couldn't actually train at all in his later playing years - he literally had no cartilage in his knees, so his joints in that area were just bone on bone. But this really only served to emphasise just how rare and great a talent he was, as he could still perform to excellent standards quite effortlessly when playing at the top level, in spite of such a chronic condition. It is not unrealistic to say that. if King had remained fully fit for his entire career, he would undoubtedly have been England€™s stand-out defender of the last twenty years. His 22 caps just weren't enough for a man of his world class talent. King made 268 league appearances for Spurs - which could have been so much more - and he fulfilled a dream by winning a trophy with the club when they won the League Cup in 2008.
