10 Stages Of Newcastle United's 2015 Summer Transfer Window

1. "We Just Couldn't Get Him Over The Line"

A phrase regularly spewed by Alan Pardew at the conclusion of a transfer window, and which has become a macabre running joke amongst Newcastle supporters used to ridicule the club€™s failure to land one of it€™s major targets. By this stage Newcastle will have brought in - to add to the signing of Georginio Wijnaldum - Aleksandar Mitrovic, and hopefully at least a couple of others, but there is nagging suspicion the club will come up short in its efforts to strengthen a key area of the team, probably in defence, when the final grain of sand drops through the hourglass to call time on the window. Newcastle€™s defensive ranks require an extensive refresh after five years of stagnation, while the acquisition of another forward on top of Mitrovic, is a necessity. The signing of Wijnaldum does provide supporters with reason to be optimistic that Newcastle, namely Lee Charnley, will be equally as decisive when going after the other players on his and Graham Carr€™s shopping list, and it would be a huge source of regret if the window was to end on a negative note.
