Frustration. The word that sums up Newcastle United's transfer dealings over the last number of years. When chairman Freddy Shepherd was at the helm, the club teetered on the brink of financial danger, lavishing extortionate amounts to entice overpaid mercenaries to St. James' Park. With Mike Ashley in charge, the club have taken the complete opposite stance, but no less infuriating, as the stingy businessman refuses to relax the purse strings during the transfer windows, leaving Alan Pardew with the unenviable task of sniffing around the bargain basement. However, throughout all of their dealings over the last few years, there have been a number of players who Newcastle supporters will have been relieved that they failed to sign. With moves in the offing only to break down at the last minute, supporters have initially been left frustrated and annoyed at the failure to get these players 'over the line'.
