A tour de force in the field of mealy-mouthed excuses and an expert in spinning flimsy justification. You name it and Pardew has probably had the temerity to use it as a means to a convenient alibi in the final throes of last season.
Injuries, missing key players, the sale of Yohan Cabaye, pressure and fatigue were all favourites of Pardew's while he regularly wheeled out the line "On another day we could have won. I think some of the performances have been very very good, but sometimes the results dont always follow," which became a favourite of his during our post-Christmas meltdown. Perhaps his most risible excuse was pointing the finger at the local media for the 1-0 defeat at Stoke where he cravenly attempted to concoct a story that the North East press were out of control and their coverage was having a damaging impact on the players. It didn't wash with supporters, narked by the repetitive stream of platitudes that continued to frivolously spill from his mouth, who eventually resolved to amuse themselves and ridicule the Magpies boss in one foul swoop by partaking in a game of Pardew excuse bingo.
We'll need to call upon that gallows humour again if we're to make it through another season unscathed with Pardew at the helm.
