It's certainly early days in the career of Eric Dier, but it's also certainly a case of "so far, so good". The England Under-21 international signed from Sporting Clube de Portugal, as a relative unknown to most English football fans, for just £4 million in the summer of 2014 and was expected to be a player for the future. However, due to circumstances - initially Jan Vertonghen's lacking in match fitness after missing most of pre-season following his World Cup exploits - he was thrown in at the deep end in Spurs' opening Premier League game at the Boleyn Ground against West Ham United. Remarkably, with the score at 0-0 in injury time, Dier found himself at the West Ham end of the pitch and a through-ball from Harry Kane set him free. Dier finished with the calmness of a striker to give Spurs a 1-0 win. He then played in Spurs' 2-1 win in Cyprus against AEL Limassol in the Europa League and, even more remarkably, scored again in Spurs' second Premier League match of the season - a 4-0 home win against Queens Park Rangers, having started the match at right back due to Kyle Naughton's sending off against West Ham. He is currently the most prolific player in Premier League history, with two goals from two attempts at goal and, while it could still go wrong for him, he certainly looks like a steal at £4 million.
