11 Spurs Signings Who Were Absolute Bargains

9. Teddy Sheringham

Teddy Sheringham is one of Spurs' best players in the Premier League era and a legend at the club. However, having played for the club twice, he has only cost them a total of £2.1 million (and he cost Manchester United £3.5 million to purchase from Spurs in between his two spells at White Hart Lane).

From the very beginning of his Spurs career in 1992, when he signed from Nottingham Forest for the above fee, he endeared himself to the fans and was the Premier League€™s top scorer in his first season. He went on to be Spurs€™ top scorer in four more seasons over the following ten years.

He was never quick or particularly mobile, but he had an utterly fantastic footballing brain - one that granted him an extra couple of yards against any given opponent. He could undoubtedly score goals, but his ability to do so was equalled by his ability to hold up the ball beautifully and always find the right pass in a manner that was extremely easy on the eyes.

He formed memorable strike partnerships with players ranging from Jurgen Klinsmann to Chris Armstrong and Robbie Keane in his time at White Hart Lane and he made nearly 250 league appearances in his two spells with the club. He didn't actually win anything with Spurs, but he was a losing finalist in the 2-1 defeat to Blackburn in the 2001 League Cup.

Sheringham remains the ninth highest goalscorer in Premier League history with 147 goals - 98 of which came in a Spurs shirt - and Spurs€™ ninth highest scorer of all time, having scored 124 goals in all competitions.
