WhatCultureNUFC understands that Georginio Wijnaldum will be employed as a box-to-box midfielder next season. Many expected the now former PSV Eindhoven man to be used in any of the three slots behind a lone striker, but it seems United have very big plans for him. Steve McClaren sees him playing a huge part in NUFC's new 'double 6' formation. A double 6, according to Google at least, is a 4-2-3-1 formation that focusses heavily on the two defensive midfielders in the side. From what WhatcultureNUFC learned on Friday night, it seems Wijnaldum will occupy one of those central midfield roles and be tasked with a lot of the running. Basically, he'll be playing the type of role made famous by Yaya Toure, starting from deep but getting forward to support the front men. Not that we're comparing him to the Ivorian of course, but you get what we mean.
