12 Most Expensive Transfers In Premier League History

2. Fernando Torres - Liverpool To Chelsea (£50 Million)

Fernando Torres has been knocked off his perch. Chelsea paid an astonishing £50 million to steal him away from Liverpool on January deadline day 2011, and with Torres one of the hottest strikers in the world at the time he was expected to go from strength-to-strength at the Bridge. Liverpool used the money to replace Torres with Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, but in the Spaniard's case, he was expected to be the man to replace Didier Drogba at his new club in the long term. Nobody could have predicted what followed. Torres suffered a nightmare - the one no striker ever wants to experience. His inexplicable loss of form led to a miserable first year in blue. The man who could once do no wrong went 14 games and 732 minutes before he scored his first goal for Chelsea, and he only ended up netting five in his first year at the club. Torres lost all ability and confidence under the weight of his hefty fee, and lost his significant turn of pace following some debilitating injuries. He did have some fine moments in amongst the ones to forget, but he's now been cast off to AC Milan on a two-year loan deal. His Stamford Bridge nightmare is over.
