12 Newcastle Players Who Returned For A Second Spell On Tyneside

3. Kevin Keegan - "The Third Coming"

First Spell (As A Player, 1982-84): League Appearances: 78 League Goals: 48 Second Spell (As Manager, 1992-97): Games Managed: 251 Wins: 138 Third Spell (As Manager, 2008): Games Managed: 22 Wins: 7 When Kevin Keegan returned for his "Second Coming" (or "Third Coming" for the purposes of this article) as manager following Sam Allardyce's dismissal in January 2008, Newcastle fans were positive about the future - but, unfortunately, within eight months everything had turned sour. Keegan won just six matches in 21 games in charge during his second spell as manager - but that was the least of his problems. Mike Ashley's decision to employ Dennis Wise as director of football saw King Kev fall out with the board over incoming and outgoing transfers, forcing him into a position where he felt compelled to resign (for a second time). Eventually suing for "constructive dismissal", Keegan's second spell ended acrimoniously - and with a win ratio of just 28.57%. A deeply depressing way for one of Newcastle's finest-ever players and managers to end his association with the club.
