13 Football Moments That Defined 2013

12. Bradford's Brave League Cup Adventure

The 'magic of the cup' was alive and kicking in 2013 when "little" Bradford City shocked everyone by reaching the final of the League Cup. The then-fourth-tier side stunned a series of Premier League opponents en route to reaching Wembley back in February, as the mother of all underdog stories was played out. Wigan, Aston Villa and, most notably, Arsenal all fell to Phil Parkinson's Giant Killers, whose plucky, never-say-die attitude enraptured us all. Their dream of a major cup win for the first time since their FA Cup triumph in 1911 was to be dashed by eventual winners Swansea, however, who battered the Bantams 5-0 - though that doesn't detract from a truly brave cup run. There would be a happy ending for Bradford, who were promoted into League One last May.
