16 Newcastle Players You Won't Believe Are Seasoned Internationals

6. Marc Hottiger - 63 Switzerland Caps

Newcastle United: 1994-96 Position: Defender Nationality: Swiss Premier League Appearances: 39 Premier League Goals: 1 International Caps (Goals): 63 (5) A total of 39 Premier League appearances for Newcastle - yet that is little more than half the number of international caps that Marc Hottiger received for Switzerland between 1989 and 1996. Hottiger arrived at Newcastle from FC Sion for £525,000 in 1994 and was a reasonable back-up defender for Kevin Keegan's Magpies. Although hardly a key member of the Entertainers, Hottiger certainly did not disgrace himself when called upon by Keegan - and even scored a 25-yard screamer against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup. Mainly operating at right-back, Hottiger made 63 appearances for Switzerland and scored five goals - even appearing at the 1994 World Cup and the 1996 European Championship in England.
