20 Worst Squads In FIFA World Cup History
18. Cameroon (2014)
The 2014 tournament is remembered either fondly if you’re from Germany, Costa Rica or the Netherlands, with pain if you’re from Argentina... or simply with a strong sense of embarrassment if you’re from Italy, England or Brazil.
However, the Brazilian hosts seemed like a force to be reckoned with before their semi-final decimation at the hands of eventual winners, Germany, and their strong group stage performance showed this. Unfortunately for Cameroon, they were one of the teams who shared a group with the Brazilians, and were swiftly made an example of by everyone.
Drawn against Croatia and Mexico as well as the hosts, Cameroon’s campaign started glumly with a 0-1 loss to Mexico. However, the hurt was just beginning as they were pummeled 0-4 by Croatia in their second game and handed a 1-4 battering by the Brazilians. Cameroon bowed out of the World Cup having scored just one goal and with a -8 goal difference, making it one of the worst World Cup campaigns in African football history.
