4 Reasons Chelsea’s Win At Man City Was So Impressive

1. 21st Century Football

Following histeams 25 shot at goal 72% possession frustration against West Ham last week, Jose accused Sam Allardayce of being a purveyor of 19th football. When asked what more he could have done to score against West Ham, Mourinho suggested bringing along a hand held power tool to drill through the imprenetrable wall containing Roger Johnson. Chelsea's visits to Old Trafford & the Emirates both ended goaless this season. Jose seemed to set his teams out with the sole purpose of 'not losing', for which he came under much scrutiny in the media. One can see a problem here, is Jose not a hypocrite for accusing Allardayce of shutting up shop when he did the same earlier this season? After last nights performance the answer is an emphatic no. From the word go Chelsea were adventurous and showed a willingness to go forward. The statistics actually show City having 7 more shots & 65% of the possession. But Chelsea looked threatening, especially on the counter attack. Their shot count compared to their possessions proves how economical they were with the ball. It could also have been more, with the blues hitting the woodwork three times. Jose showed that he is willing to change his tactics to suit the situation. Seemingly an easy thing to do, every manager would like to think they would do the same. But would they, away to Manchester City? Realising the threat which Alex Kolarov poses down City's left, Mourinho elected to drop Oscar and shift fellow Brazilian Ramires to Chelsea's right hand side. Ramires characteristically worked hard to nullify the threat of Kolarov and also tucked in when necessary to provide support to Matic and Luiz. Eden Hazard was even spotted tracking Jesus Navas on occasion, testament to the work ethic instilled in the team. In his post match interview John Terry commetned on the tireless preperation Chelsea put into this game and it showed. That is what was so impressive about Chelsea's victory.
