There is no doubt that the current clean sheet record has given him an unbelievable boost. It showed against Hibernian. It was the first game for weeks that Celtic had been put under substantial pressure, but he gave the best performance of the season, in all competitions. He produced save after save, keeping Hibernian at bay for all it took for them to tire, and Celtic pounced to a 4-0 victory. He gave a similar performance in the following game against Kilmarnock. The more clean sheets this man ensures in the league, the more confidence he will accumulate and the faster he will develop as a world class goalkeeper. If he manages to beat the European record for clean sheets, there is no doubt he will be on top of the world, and eager not to let it slip for England. Of course, I understand Joe Hart has a firm grip of the number 1 spot for England, and he clearly deserves it. I have no doubt in my mind that Hart will be playing every single game in the world cup providing he's not injured, but that does not mean that Forster shouldn't be given a sniff at it. It's true that Forster's debut wasn't too exciting, but the 2-0 defeat to Chile was absolutely not a projection of his abilities - two shots he could do nothing about. I would absolutely love to see Forster at least play half-games and make a couple of starts, and it's not because I want him to play in the World Cup - he needs the caps to develop. England have a terrible history of denying up-and-coming players the chance to prove their worth in favour of mainstay position holders, although it's a habit they are beginning to eradicate. It's in their best interests to give Forster as many chances as they can give him. Do you think that Fraser Forster should be given some more starts for England? Or do you think Joe Hart is just too strong to knock off the goalkeeper podium? Let us know in the comments section below
As a recent university graduate and a huge supporter of Celtic FC, what better way to use my inevitable free time to write about my favourite football team? I'll cover most things that the supporters are talking about at the moment, which includes things that directly and indirectly involve the club. At times I may also stray into matters concerning English clubs.
