4 Ways Aberdeen Could Actually Challenge Celtic Next Season
2. They Need To Sign Better Defenders
A difficult task, but nonetheless possible if they finish in second place this season. The prize fund for second or even first place is not exactly exciting, but if they use that money to find a bargain defender or two who play well, then there's no harm done at all. Their defensive play is by far the weakest aspect of the Aberdeen team, and strengthening this area would make their squad so much more balanced. They should look at how Celtic work the transfer market. We managed to sign players like Wanyama, Commons and even Henrik Larsson a few years back, using money that most SPL teams should be able to afford (£900k, £350k and £600k, respectively). Of course, we have the lure of just being Celtic - a huge, successful club, promising the players that they are going to progress substantially and become institutionalised match winners. If they want, Aberdeen can do this as well. If Aberdeen continue to perform like they are until the end of the season, they will attract attention. They have the chance to win 2 major domestic trophies, twice as many as Celtic can win, and with this they can convince potential players that their club is worth joining, because they're good enough to submit a challenge to Celtic next season.
As a recent university graduate and a huge supporter of Celtic FC, what better way to use my inevitable free time to write about my favourite football team? I'll cover most things that the supporters are talking about at the moment, which includes things that directly and indirectly involve the club. At times I may also stray into matters concerning English clubs.
