5 Emergency Goalkeepers Newcastle Need To Consider

2. Jussi Jääskeläinen

Despite being Sam Allardyce€™s best mate, Finland€™s second most famous son (the first being that mascara salesman and HIM front man Ville Valo) found himself phased out of the first team at West Ham last season. Largely due to the emergence of Adrian, but partly because his particular goalkeeping style of flailing wildly is best consigned to the turn of the millennium where it belongs. However Jaaskelinin still has something to offer - considerably more than his single outing in the League Cup merits. Whilst occasionally being prone to some Barthez-style rolled up sleeve eccentricity, his shot stopping and command of area deservedly game him a reputation as one of the league€™s best goalkeepers. Bolton once finished 6th, and it certaintly wasn€™t because they had Bruno N€™Gotty and Nicky Hunt in front of him. However the only hitch is West Ham€™s noticable lack of a third choice goalkeeper. Raphael Spiegel sat on the bench for their only cup game, but he now finds himself out on loan at Barnet. As with Spurs though, West Ham find themselves contesting a top 4 spot with Newcastle so may need some considerable financial incentive to help them out. Newcastle can€™t borrow a 39 year old goalkeeper from West Ham because they€™re both battling for a Champion€™s League spot. Imagine telling someone that at the start of the season.
