5. Shane Ferguson
Due to the fact Newcastle conceded four goals it seems bizarre that a centre-back should make this list, but that isn't actually Shane Ferguson's position. At just 5ft 10in and being incredibly slight of frame, the Northern Irishman can perhaps feel a little hard done by being asked to fill in at the centre of the Magpies' defence by his head coach Steve McClaren. Beaten every time in the air, as you would expect, Ferguson did perform well on the deck with the ball at his feet and looked assured in possession, as well as reasonable in positioning despite being in an unfamiliar slot in the side. By no means Newcastle's best performer, but he deserves a "hero" tag for just being willing to fill in where his head coach needed him to.
