5 Players Most Likely To Leave Chelsea This Summer

4. Fernando Torres

Higher up this list than might be expected, Torres is probably the player both Chelsea fans and management would most like to be able to shift before close of business at the end of the month. Unfortunately, thanks to his gargantuan wages, he's also likely to prove the most difficult player to shift of any at the club. Reports say the Spaniard will refuse to leave unless his present wages are covered in full - the linked article puts him on £150k per week, when he's actually closer to £180k p/w - and he wouldn't be the first to take that stance. Winston Bogarde is the most infamous example, sticking around Chelsea like a bad smell between 2000 and 2004 for the same reason despite never playing, while Florent Malouda's refusal to accept a lesser paying move away from the Bridge also saw him isolated from the first team during the final year of his contract. Despite a series of stunning failures in front of goal, Torres could probably still attract a number of high profile suitors from across the globe, though whether Chelsea would be willing to cover a significant percentage of his wages while he played elsewhere remains to be seen. Even if he were to leave, Mourinho would then be left with only two strikers, one being the 36-year old Didier Drogba. Andre Schurrle is theoretically capable of playing up front but looked lost both times he tried it last season, while finding a capable, homegrown replacement would be quite a challenge. And no, Danny Welbeck does not count as 'capable'. At this point, even Torres would probably rather be plying his trade elsewhere, but difficult circumstances mean we'll probably have to put up with him for at least another year.
