5 Reasons Tottenham Could Win The Premier League Title This Season
3. Roberto Soldado
£26 million for a 28 year old who has never played in another country before sounds like an incredible risk but Roberto Soldado is one of the most successful strikers in Europe. Much like Fernando Torres when he first arrived at Liverpool in 2008 he was an unknown in this country but was a big deal in his native Spain. Roberto Soldado is a former Real Madrid player and was a key figure at his last club Valencia like Torres was at Atlético Madrid.
Soldado started his career at Real Madrid but despite scoring plenty of goals for the B team he was never accepted as one of the Galacticos and was first sent out on loan at Osasuna then in the summer of 2008 he got sold to Getafe. After goals at both clubs Soldado moved onto Valencia and was the lead striker scoring over 50 goals in 100 games both in league and Champions League.
Soldado has also recently broken into the Spanish squad going to the recent Confederations Cup in Brazil so for a long time he has had a reputation in Spain as being a solid player and good goal scorer.
He is a pacey striker with a real eye for finishing and gets in the box plenty of times and more importantly for Spurs fans is Soldado has experience playing and being successful as a lone striker. Last Sunday at Palace he showed off to Spurs fans how committed he is chasing down lost causes, showing a good link up with his fellow players and a great first touch. He scored his penalty clinically and had Spurs fans singing his name when he was substituted.
I firmly believe Soldado will score 20 goals in the league this season and I dont think any team can seriously think about winning the league without having a world class striker to score 20 goals. Soldado will be a huge factor in how high Spurs can finish this year because with a striker that is always a threat to sides converting chances in and around the penalty area is a major asset.
