6 Big Deals Newcastle United Are Currently Working On
3. Daryl Janmaat
Mike Egerton/PA Wire/Press Association ImagesClub: FeyenoordIt looks like Newcastle will definitely line up next season with a new face in one of their most established positions from 2013/14, with Mathieu Debuchy looking all-but-definite to move on for a profit, having realised his desire to use the club as a springboard to the Champions League. His defection elsewhere (more of which soon) will see Newcastle potentially lining up in August without a right-back with experience or fitness, since Davide Santon and Ryan Taylor would likely be the best candidates to fill the position based on their suitability (though Santon remains an enigma, and Taylor's fitness has to be a serious concern).
But it appears the club are looking to get a deal for a right-back pushed through quickly, and the most likely candidate seems to be Dutch international Daryl Janmaat, who has just returned from his side's semi-final run in the World Cup. That deal is apparently imminent, as the 24-year-old has agreed personal terms and is happy with the move, but wanted to have the tournament out of the way to make sure he didn't have any distractions to his country's involvement.
Now that that is over, it would seem a deal will be announced very soon, though some reports are now suggesting that valuation - what a surprise - is a sticking point at the minute.
Naturally, when and if the Janmaar deal - or indeed an alternative in the same position - is completed, that will make way for one of the least unexpected moves of the summer to go through...
