6 Players That Have To Start For Spurs

1. Lewis Holtby

Another forgotten man this summer, half-English, half-German Holtby joined Spurs in the January window last season. He had an uneventful start to his Tottenham career, failing to repeat the form he showed at Schalke and making only a handful of league appearances. And when new signing Christian Eriksen impressed on his debut earlier this season, it looked like the Germany U21 captain was about to be pushed further into the shadows. However, on the back of strong performances in the cup competitions, Holtby has fought his way into the first team and in recent matches has proved himself to be a major creative force in the team. Like the other players I've talked about in this article, Holtby is a player with balls. A true workhorse, you can be sure he's going to cover every blade of grass for the shirt. As he's settled into the team, his attacking link-up has improved leaps and bounds, showing a keen eye for the perfect pass. Since the departure of Modric, it is this aspect of play that Spurs have long missed - Holtby can be the player to provide the service our forwards have been starved of. And if the wonder-strike against Fulham is any indication, Lewis may have learned something from a certain Mr G. Bale when it comes to scoring screamers. Lewis is an exciting prospect in what's building up to be a very exciting Spurs side.
