6 Premier League Players To Look Out For In 2014

4. Erik Lamela - Tottenham Hotspur

BREAKING NEWS: You don€™t become a bad player overnight. Lamela arrived at Spurs with a big reputation and an even bigger price tag, having scored 15 goals in 33 league games for a somewhat unconvincing Roma side last term. He has become a regular in the Argentina set-up and is still regarded as one of the best young talents in world football. But there is no doubting that Lamela€™s first six months at Tottenham have been below par, although there are reasons for that. At the tender age of 21 it is very difficult to move to a whole new country where you don€™t speak the language and hit the ground running. Coming into a team doing well and winning most weeks would have been easier but Tottenham have endured a sticky first half to the season which hasn€™t helped the Argentine. It takes even the best players a while to get used to the Premier League, which is very different to Serie A. Premier League great Thierry Henry failed to scored in his first eight games and look what he went on to achieve. Lamela has been linked with loan moves to Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid to help ensure his World Cup place but I fear if that move happens he would never return. What he needs is Tim Sherwood to show faith in him and give him 10 games on the right of midfield. There is no doubt in my mind that he will come good if Tottenham play it right. If they don€™t, they will be wasting, and probably losing, a wonderful talent. Given the chance Lamela can be one of the stars of the Premier League in 2014.
