7 Players Worthy Of Breaking Newcastle's Transfer Record

4. Luis Muriel - Udinese (transfermarkt.co.uk value: £12.3 million)

Muriel is a very technical striker with a lot of pace and skill, but his poor form for club Udinese this season, and lack of appearances, four goals in only 14 starts for the Serie A side, resulting in an absence from the Colombia World Cup squad. On the bright side, any success his nation has wouldn't impact on his value and his last year may well mean that he wouldn't cost more than the £17 million paid for Michael Owen in 2005, but at 23 years old he has the potential to be worth it, having been looked at by some top clubs in the past. He also has a contract until 2018, which gives the power to his current employers in terms of possible negotiations. In Italy, Muriel is compared to the great Ronaldo, his hero growing up for his pace, trickery and usually clinical finishing. He isn't typically suited to the Premier League, but some said that about Loic Remy, and that story ended rather well for him... Muriel would add alot to St James' Park, with his ability to play off the shoulder, drop deep to help the midfield and beat a man, he can do a variety of different jobs for the team and Newcastle should actually look at him. He is a star in the making.
