7 Premier League Stars That Newcastle Allowed To Slip Away

1. Aaron Ramsey

It was during last Saturday's FA Cup final that former Newcastle defender Robbie Elliott delivered a startling revelation concerning Ramsey much to the bemusement of Toon supporters. Just moments after the Welshman had rifled in the winning goal in extra time to end the Gunners' nine-year wait for a trophy, Elliott let slip in a series of tweets that Ramsey's career could have sprung off in a completely different direction after we had him on trial as a teenager. Elliott recalled the 15/16-year-old midfielder joining the Magpies first team in training during Glenn Roeder's tenure and more than holding his own in amongst the senior players only for us to balk at the £500,000 asking price Cardiff had placed on his young shoulders. Hindsight is a beautiful thing. Although, as the former defender proclaims, it's improbable that Ramsey would go on to become the player he has under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium had he ended up in black and white all those years ago.
